Home automation over the Internet | Electronics Project Ideas

Do you want to control all your home appliances over the internet ? With the current technologies its very easy. Client server technology combined with the power line communication technologies its very easy to build an internet enabled application to control all your electrical appliances.
The flow is something like this. Install X10 modules on all your electrical appliances which you want to control over the internet. Connect the central control station of the X10 modules to a Microcontroller. The Microcontroller is connected to a serial to Ethernet module which is capable of updating server with the current status of the X10 modules.
An online web interface can be created which can communicate with a database which stores the current status of the devices. From the interface the web application can control the devices.

but wont this endanger the security as any one can acess these devices through net . more over is there any threat to devices themselves
