Text only channels are very popular in many countries. They are used to provide information like news, stock quotes etc. They are like normal television channels, just that  they don’t show any videos or pictures. Our aim in this project is to build an internet based text channel. We will have a content server and a set top box. The content server is the software part and the set top box is the hardware part. The set top box will be connected to the internet via an Ethernet jack. The device will fetch information from our server and convert it into NTSC/PAL format. Any normal television plugged into the device can show this information. As a future upgrade, simple pictures can be shown. But will need Microcontrollers with more processing power. The device is very useful in digital signage networks.
